INTEGRATED SCIENCES AND COMPUTATION FACILITY

A shimmering veil of glass, with vertical sunscreens to deflect the western sun, stretches across the entry façade of the new Integrated Sciences and Computation Facility.  The building, on axis with the campus mall at the eastern edge of the campus, anchors the mall and creates a new gateway to Claremont McKenna College from the community .  The four-story atrium is a living room for the campus, an active space that puts science and allied disciplines on display, marking their importance to the intellectual life of this vibrant liberal arts college.   Outdoor terraces are closely integrated with the building to encourage opportunities for outdoor teaching and learning.

The 100,000 BGSF building includes classrooms, research and teaching laboratories, computation center, collaboration spaces, faculty offices, and a café. It is conceived as an interdisciplinary academic center, incorporating the departments of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Computer Science and Mathematics, as well as several of CMC’s specialized institutes.  The building also includes a new central plant serving the entire campus.  The building will be an essential contributor to the growing recognition of Claremont McKenna College as a unique institution among the distinguished Claremont Colleges.
