Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Center (RSC) has officially earned LEED Platinum v4 certification, the highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council for its energy-efficient and sustainable building design. This recognition places the RSC among the most environmentally advanced research facilities in the country and affirms Caltech’s commitment to sustainability at every level.

Designed to serve as a hub for climate and sustainability research, the 80,000-square-foot, four-story facility embodies Caltech’s mission to drive solutions for global environmental challenges. From its mass timber structure, which dramatically reduces embodied carbon, to on-site solar energy production, advanced stormwater systems and labs that consume far less energy than typical research buildings, every element of the RSC was engineered with both performance and the planet in mind.

By achieving LEED Platinum, the RSC strengthens Caltech’s role as a global leader in advancing sustainability — not only through what is studied, but through how and where that work takes place.
