KOC MODEL SCHOOL

The building supports activity based learning by proposing clusters of flexible classrooms linked together by a centralized open area that can be adapted to support various educational functions. This arrangement is a new take on the typical classroom configuration which tends to place classrooms in long rows along a double loaded corridor. The KOC model transforms the corridor into a place for learning rather than simply a means of getting from one room to another. The result is an incubator for learning with dedicated classroom nodes at the perimeter and smaller scale workshops and flexible learning environments sprinkled throughout the building’s core. In the center of the project, a large terraced atrium brings natural light to informal teaching areas located between classroom pods.
